Over 20 years ago, His Highness Sheikh
\nMohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
\nVice President and Prime Minister of
\nthe UAE and Ruler of Dubai, dreamed of
\nbringing the world\u2019s best
\nthoroughbreds to Dubai.
\nHis vision became reality
\nin 1996 when he created
\nthe Dubai World Cup.
\nThe Dubai World Cup is a
\nThoroughbred horse race
\nheld annually on the last
\nSaturday in March in the
\nEmirate of Dubai, United
\nArab Emirates and is
\npart of the Dubai World Cup Night of races,
\nfeaturing nine high-class races including six
\nGroup 1 and three Group 2 contests.
\nCreated through the vision of His Highness
\nSheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
\nVice President and Prime Minister of the
\nUAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai World Cup
\nprovides a truly global stage upon which the
\nbest horses in the world come to compete
\nevery year.
\nThe race was held at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse
\nbefore 2009. Starting from 2010, the Dubai
\nWorld Cup is held at the new Meydan
\nRacecourse, when the prize for the winning
\nhorse was also increased from $6m to $10m
\nto coincide with the opening of Meydan<\/p>\n
In Arabic, \u201cMeydan\u201d suggests a place to
\ncongregate and compete; since 2010,
\nthe course\u2019s mile-long grandstand has
\naccommodated over 60,000 people, and
\nis considered the world\u2019s longest single
\nstructure.
\nThe $10 million race had always been the
\nworld\u2019s richest until this year when usurped
\nthis year by the Pegasus World Cup. The new
\nFlorida event broke all records in January,
\noffering a $12 million prize purse and $7
\nmillion for the winner, Arrogate.
\nSome very good horses have won the Dubai
\nWorld Cup over the past 21 years. The race\u2019s
\nfirst winner was the future United States
\nHall of Fame Thoroughbred Cigar, owned by
\nAllen E. Paulson. A plaque honouring that
\nhorse hangs outside the barn of Bill Mott at
\nBelmont Park.
\nThe race\u2019s last winner Arrogate, the highest
\nrated horse in the world, had to overcome a
\nshocking start to finish first. Arrogate is used
\nto the standard American practice of putting
\na handler in the stalls. Without one, he simply
\nfell out of the gate and turned away from the
\nstands.<\/p>\n
After missing the break at the start of the
\n2,000-metre contest, which left him trailing
\nhis 13 rivals, the imposing grey son of
\nUnbridled steadily worked his way back into
\nthe race under a super confident Mike Smith,
\nbefore pulling away in the final furlong to win
\nin glorious fashion.<\/p>\n
Arrogate\u2019s 51-year-old rider Mike Smith, one
\nof the leading jockeys in US thoroughbred
\nracing since the early 1990s, was ecstatic and
\nsaid: \u201cWhen I missed the break I immediately
\nthought of Zenyatta. I thought \u2018I\u2019ve got so
\nmuch confidence in this horse I\u2019m going to
\nride him like Zenyatta\u2019 and it paid off.
\nThe Dubai World Cup is not all about racing,
\nthough. Fashion at the races has become an
\ninstitution in itself, with men and
\nwomen using the occasion as a
\nprime opportunity to showcase
\ntheir style, flair and creativity.
\nCelebrated with the Style Stakes
\nat the Dubai World Cup, the judges
\nare looking for style, elegance,
\ncreativity and practicality amongst
\nthe competing fashionistas.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s judges were; Kelly Lundberg,
\naward-winning celebrity stylist and
\nentrepreneur; Dom Magneto, fashion
\ndesigner and retail expert; Daniel Higgins,
\nfashion editor of Esquire Middle East and The
\nBig Black Book; Saufeeya Goodson, content
\ncreator and Vogue Arabia contributor; and
\nLucy Widman, fashion and beauty director of
\nOK! Middle East & Cosmopolitan Middle East.
\nFestivities on Dubai World Cup day end with
\nthe spectacular Dubai World Cup show and
\nlive music concert. In recent years, stars like
\nSting, Santana, Jennifer Lopez, Elton John,
\nKylie Minogue, Janet Jackson took the stage
\nto entertain the horse-race enthusiasts and
\nseal this world class event with a spectacular
\nshow. This year, eight-time Grammy
\nnominated Australian hitmaker closed the
\nworld\u2019s richest race day.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President
\nof the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has pledged to
\nmake the Dubai World Cup the world\u2019s most
\nvaluable race once more.
\nThe World Cup, won in scintillating fashion by
\nArrogate on Saturday, was eclipsed in prize
\nmoney in January by the Pegasus World Cup,
\na race the roan colt also won.
\nThat race is worth US$12 million (Dh44m)
\ncompared to the $10m of Dubai World Cup.
\nWhen asked whether he would increase
\nthe purse of the World Cup to supersede
\nthe Pegasus equivalent Sheikh Mohammed
\nreplied: \u201cDefinitely we will do that. The
\nfuture is open. We have a vision and we
\ndream for that. We will put plans in place to
\nimprove this race \u2013 the Dubai World Cup.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nIMPORTANCE OF THE METHOD

\ncertain problems with contact lenses. One

\nthat can be cause some infections. Addition
\nto that, in the long term using contact lenses
\ncan cause dry eye, burning and itching effects.
\nWith the effect of original eye color under
\nthe lens, it will give you an opaque eye that
\ndoesn\u2019t looks like real.
\nFor sorting out that problems, with the
\nadvanced laser technology we can take away
\nthe pigments with melanine in order to get
\nstroma on surface. After the laser operation
\neye color will change to hazel, light brown,
\ngreen, blue or grey depends on melanine
\ndensity in stromma and stromal fiber and
\ncollagen type on the eye.
\nAPPLIANCE OF THE METHOD
\nBefore doing laser, there should be some
\ntests has to happen. Corneal thickness
\n(Pachymetry), corneal topography, corneal
\nendotel cell number, iris thickness,
\niridocorneal angle measurement, makula
\nthickness measurement, optical nerve head
\nanalysis, eye vision range are some of the
\ntests we do. Eye reaction measurements,
\ncataract and peripheral retina examinations
\non biomicroscope will be done to patients.
\nAfter those tests, if the patient\u2019s eye passed
\nthem we will start the operations. Patients
\nhad problems with tests and glaucoma in his\/
\nher families are not eligible for the operation.<\/p>\n
